The Macan has been a pivotal model for Porsche, particularly on American soil, since its debut a decade ago. At the time, it was Porsche’s first foray into the burgeoning compact SUV market and complemented its bigger brother, the Cayenne, in the German manufacturer’s lineup. After reaching US dealerships in mid-2014, the Macan soon became Porsche’s best-selling model all over the globe, even surpassing the uber-popular Cayenne. The name ‘Macan’ is derived from the Indonesian word for tiger, which is apt considering the model’s solid reputation for robust performance and agility over the years.

The first-generation Macan was built on the same platform as the Audi Q5 but heavily modified by Porsche and offered a range of engines including turbocharged V-6s and, later, a four-cylinder turbocharged option. Famed for its sporty characteristics, the Macan featured a seven-speed dual-clutch PDK transmission as standard, while air suspension and Porsche Active Suspension Management were optional extras. A year later, the Macan GTS arrived, slotting between the Macan S and Turbo, offering enhanced performance and some other sportier features. Updates in 2016 and 2019 refined its tech, exterior, and interior styling - but the biggest and perhaps most surprising update of all came in 2024.

Earlier this year, Porsche unveiled their second-generation Macan, and now, it's all-electric. The purring Porsche purists may shudder, but fear not, the Macan Electric is produced alongside the ever-popular combustion engine version, rather than instead of. Anyway, the focus here is on the Macan EV, and this iteration is built on the same platform as the Audi Q6 e-tron and initially offered two powertrains via the Macan 4 and Macan Turbo. But now, ahead of 2025, there are two new models being added to the lineup, including a new entry point into the electric Macan lineup. Here's everything we know about the 2025 Macan Electric lineup so far.

The 2025 Macan Electric Is Offered In Four Trims

The 2025 Porsche Macan marks a significant expansion of Porsche’s all-electric lineup with the introduction of two brand new models: a rear-wheel-drive variant at base and the high-performance Macan 4S. The rear-wheel-drive Macan’s single motor at the rear-axle and 100 kWh battery delivers 335 horses which allows the car to achieve a top speed of 136 mph and accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 5.4 seconds. Enhanced by a 480-amp pulse inverter featuring silicon carbide transistors, the system increases efficiency and power delivery, offering up to 355 horsepower of overboost power and 415 pound-feet of torque.

The Macan 4S, which sits between the Macan 4 and Macan Turbo, boasts a more potent performance setup with dual motors, one each at the front and rear axles. Combined, these motors produce 442 horsepower and up to 509 horsepower in overboost mode. The 4S achieves 0 to 60 mph in just 3.9 seconds and reaches a top speed of 149 mph. Standard features include adaptive air suspension with Porsche Active Suspension Management, which promises to provide drivers and passengers with a nice balance between performance and comfort. The 4S also gets optional Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus and rear-axle steering.

The two models that began the Electric Macan’s lineup earlier this year, the Macan 4 and Macan Turbo trims, are also two excellent options that will continue to be available in the 2025 model year alongside the new rear-wheel-drive and 4S variants. The Macan 4 also features dual-motors producing 402 horses and 479 pound-feet of torque, allowing a 0-60 mph time of 4.9 seconds. Despite such impressive power, the Macan 4 maintains an estimated range of 247 miles on a full charge.

Up To 630 Horses In The Top-spec Turbo Trim

For those who crave something with even more oomph, well, the Macan Turbo will likely be the one for you. Like all trims other than the rear-wheel-drive, the Turbo also gets dual motors that deliver an astonishing 630 horsepower and 833 pound-feet of torque. This allows this top-of-the-range electric Macan to fire from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.1 seconds. The Turbo also gets decent range with an estimated 280 miles, supported by a 100 kWh battery pack and rapid DC fast charging capabilities.

10- To 80-percent Charge In Just 21 Minutes

All the 2025 Porsche Macan Electric models feature a 100 kWh battery and an 800-volt architecture, supporting DC fast charging up to 270 kW, which allows for 10- to 80-percent charge in around 21 minutes. These models can also handle 135 kW on a 400-volt charger thanks to a unique battery-splitting feature. All variants support AC fast charging at up 11 kW. While EPA estimates aren’t quite ready to be released, it’s expected the Macan EVs will all be in and around the 300 miles per charge range.

New Design Elements And An Off-Road Package

The new electric Macan has had some subtle updates to its look both inside and out. Externally, the Macan EV maintains that signature Porsche aesthetic while integrating a newly available Slate Gray Neo colorway and a fresh 20-inch wheel design. While these updates might not be the most exciting, there have been numerous upgrades to the car’s design to aid its aerodynamics and bring down its overall weight, which we’ll come onto in just a moment.

The 2025 Macan Electric Gets New Off-Road Package

Porsche has also introduced a new off-road package which enhances the versatility of all four trim levels. This optional extra aims to improve the Macan’s off-road capabilities with a re-engineered front bumper which increases the approach angle to 17.5 degrees and raises ground clearance by 10mm, reaching 8.8 inches at its highest setting. Available in Vesuvius Grey or matching the car’s exterior color, the off-road pack includes 21-inch off-road design wheels and roof railings in black, silver, or Turbonite.

By implementing innovative active and passive aerodynamic systems, such as an adaptive rear spoiler and active cooling flaps, the Macan EV achieves a remarkably low drag coefficient of 0.25 Cd. These features, alongside optimized airflow from air curtains and a louvered diffuser, help the Macan EV slice through the air with minimal resistance, in turn improving both the speed and efficiency of the car.

Weight reduction is another critical area where the new Macan Electric excels. Despite the increased dimensions and a heavier battery than its predecessors, the 2025 electric models manage to keep weight gain minimal, with curb weights between 5,004 to 5,393 pounds. Porsche has managed to achieve this thanks to its advanced engineering and materials used, including the use of super-lightweight components and a focus on chassis and suspension tuning.

The optional Porsche Active Suspension Management with two-valve tech and the rear-axle steering aim to further enhance handling, which should make the Macan Electric feel agile and responsive, similar to a smaller, lighter sports car that are synonymous with the brand.

The Macan EV is surprisingly practical with plenty of cargo space available inside. The absence of a traditional engine under the hood allows for additional storage space up front, offering a 2.9 cubic-foot frunk. The main cargo area in the rear provides 18 cubic feet of space, which can expand to 46.5 cubic feet when the rear seats are folded down. This makes the Macan EV not only a stylish and sustainable choice but also a versatile one, capable of handling various cargo needs.

Infotainment And Tech

The Macan Electric’s infotainment system is designed to enhance the overall driving experience with plenty of cutting-edge tech. The centerpiece is a 10.9-inch central touchscreen, complemented by a 12.6-inch digital instrument cluster. An optional 10.9-inch display in front of the passenger is also available which allows for video content viewing while on the move. The system supports Apple CarPlay and includes a voice assistant activated by the command “Hey Porsche”, similar to Amazon’s Alexa and Apple’s Siri functions. The new Macan also offers a head-up display which uses augmented reality to project navigation and other important bits of important info directly onto the windshield.

The 2025 Macan Electric Costs Up To $105,000

The two new Porsche Macan Electric models, the base rear-wheel-drive trim and the Macan 4S are available to order in the U.S. right now, with deliveries expected to commence in the fourth quarter of 2024. The entry-level Macan electric has a starting price of $75,300, while the new 4S trim can be had for $84,900.

As previously mentioned, these models add to the already available Macan 4 at $78,800 and the top-of-the-range Macan Turbo at $105,300. Porsche notes that these MSRP figures exclude tax, title, registration, dealer charges, and a $1,995 delivery, processing, and handling fee.
