Are fake manual transmissions coming? Audi keeps it real
Toyota has patented a manual transmission electric car that has one gear. The Audi RS e-Tron GT features a 2-speed transmission for the rear motor. Why don't electric cars have transmissions? It's a common question; and the truth is, they do have transmissions. Most drivers won't notice, because most electric cars have single-speed transmissions, meaning they never shift gears. Some electric cars, like the Audi e-Tron GT, as well as the Porsche Taycan, do actually have multiple gears. Both cars feature a 2-speed transmission for the rear drive unit, with a single speed up front. The game could change completely, however, after uncovering the latest patent applications from Toyota, which seeks to create a pseudo-manual transmission electric car. This video will focus on answering the following questions: 1) Why do Audi and Porsche use a two-speed transmission? 2) Why do most electric cars only use a single gear? 3) How would a fake manual transmission work, and why is Toyota considering it?

A complete breakdown of the modifications includes Golf R Euro R20 LED taillights with rear fog light priced at $750 from ECS Tuning, plus an OEM European headlight switch with working rear fog and Auto positions for $80 from USP. The Boldsport Auto headlight kit, which provides light-sensing auto headlights, is $100 from ECS, accompanied by LED interior lighting from SuperBrightLeds that features red foot lamps for approximately $50. There's also an ECS hatch pop kit for remote-controlled hatch access at $80, S2T paddle shifters at $225, Yellow PIAA Plasma Ion H8 fog lamps for $50 from ECS Tuning, and Euro front door puddle lamps ranging from $20-50. In total, the cosmetic upgrades, excluding wheels, come to $1,355, with an additional $1,000 for wheels. To stay safe during quarantine, I am making videos with my 2012 MK6 GTI and 2004 Cayenne Turbo. I discovered a useful trick for cleaning the sticky radio knobs in the Cayenne, a common issue in older Ferraris due to sun exposure, although their buttons are harder to remove. Recently, Paul bought a 4th generation Club Edition 6-speed MX-5, known as a Mazda Miata ND, to replace his beautiful V10-powered R8 with a dual clutch. I met him when he owned the first dual clutch Audi R8 in the USA with an S-Tronic transmission. His latest purchase was a 991.1 Porsche GT3RS. This video is a remote interview with Paul discussing his past cars and why he chose the Miata over a BMW M4 convertible and Bentley Continental GTC while shopping for a replacement for the Audi R8 V10 Plus. I, Ben, currently own a 1991 BRG Limited Edition Miata and previously had a classic red 1995 Miata as my weekend car, alongside my MK6 GTI DSG and Mini Cooper S (6-speed).
