CHRYSLER'S FUTURE ENTAILS 3 NEW MODELS, SRT REBOOTS, AND AFFORDABLE COMPACTS

The Chrysler marque is a bit of a paradox. On the one hand, Chrysler remains one of the biggest names in the American automotive industry. It was, until very recently, the shorthand name for one of the "Big Three." Visitors to Stellantis's North American headquarters in Michigan still turn onto Chrysler Dr. But the Chrysler brand itself has become a virtual non-entity.

Chrysler nixed the 300 sedan earlier this decade. The brand reportedly paused development on an electric SUV based on the Airflow concept. The lineup is now minivan-only. And Chrysler only has two nameplates because entry-level Pacifica minivans are now Voyagers. The Chrysler brand has no fixed identity. Chrysler would seem like a prime target for elimination during a potential Stellantis consolidation. But it appears the brand has surprisingly interesting high-performance plans for the future, including an SRT revival.

Expect Chrysler To Get An SRT Model In The Future

Former SRT head Tim Kuniskis has taken on a broader role heading up Stellantis's North American operations. And not surprisingly, his rebound plans for Stellantis brands have included a Hemi V8 revival and new high-performance SRT models. And it appears that that movement may be extending to Chrysler. Chrysler CEO Christine Feuell spoke with Mopar Insiders. She confirmed we can "expect to see some SRT models" from Chrysler in the future.

"I am so excited to bring back SRT. I can tell you after meeting with my counterparts Tim Kuniskis and Matt McAlear we got a really awesome plan for SRT. It’s a great opportunity for us to bring back the performance brands and products that have been so iconic in the past as we look to the future. To cut to the chase, I think you can expect to see some SRT models under the Chrysler brand."

What Car Will Chrysler Base Its Future SRT Model On?

Fuell did not expound upon what a future Chrysler SRT model would look like. Car journalists would likely gush over an SRT-treated minivan. But it's hard to see a hot minivan being a viable commercial prospect in real life. Chrysler would likely base future SRT cars on yet-to-be-revealed models. According to Mopar Insiders, Chrysler has three new models on the way to join the Pacifica.

Chrysler will pursue a "multi-energy powertrain strategy" with combustion, hybrid, and all-electric vehicles. In addition to a revamped Pacifica, Chrysler will offer two new crossovers. One, codenamed C6X, will be a revised version of the production Airflow. The other SUV will slot below it. Chrysler is also purportedly working on a new sedan, and a revival of the 300 nameplate is "on the table." The larger SUV and the sedan feel like the best prospects for SRT treatment.

Chrysler Also Wants A Super-Affordable Model

According to Feuell, Chrysler is working on a small, affordable car that hits the elusive sub-$30,000 price point. “One of the things that is very important for us to prioritize, though, is affordability," Feuell told Mopar Insiders. "We are working on a small car or whether you call it a compact car, but something that can transact under $30,000."
